Sunya nodded. "Yes, life must go on. We have to let the children grow up in peace."

Mulan recalled the words of Zhuangzi that her father often quoted: "Heaven and earth are not benevolent; they treat all things as straw dogs." She understood now. Life was like that-birth and death, meeting and parting. What mattered was to have love in one's heart and to cherish those around you.
